Arting for 365 Day 132: Energy Headdress

Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days
Yesterday was my second time participating in the First Friday Gallery Walk here in Fort Collins and I had a great time. My parents, brother and his wife all came down, which was fantastic, and I got the chance to chat with some great people throughout the night.
But because I had drastically underestimated (shocking, I know) the amount of time it would take to rearrange my space and get work presentable, I found myself scrambling to get day 132’s art done. Lucky for me, my frenetic energy landed directly into my drawing. I love the result. The small 4.75 x 4.75″ piece brings to mind a wild headdress. Perhaps something I could wear to harness my brain’s energy when it becomes scattered and anxious.

Arting for 365 Day 106: Woven Lines

Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days

I have never been good at estimating how long something is going to take me. If I tell you I should be able to accomplish a task in 20 minutes, you can basically guarantee I will be done with it in no less than one hour. Such has been the case with my arting over the last few days. Everything seemed to take much longer than anticipated. This is why I was pretty darned excited to sit down with pen and paper last night, with no concrete plan or timeline and just create.

The results are these three 4 x 6″ drawings. Starting with the blue piece, which is collaged insides of business envelopes, I created geometric shapes and then began filling the white space with repeated, thin lines. Liking the line thing so much, I moved on to the flowers, which are collaged wrapping paper. Lastly I moved onto drawing geometric shapes and filling the shapes with the woven lines. The line patterning seems to give the pieces depth and texture – something I find I really enjoy. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

As for how long these took me? I’d estimate about 20 minutes ;). nnn

Arting for 365 Day 65: Foliage and Dew Abstraction

Day 65 (7/2/12): Foliage and Dew Abstraction

Since this whole, making art every day for a year thing started, I’ve barely put brush to canvas. For day 65’s work though, I pulled out the acrylics with an aim to create a large scale abstracted piece.Two things in particular inspired the work:

1. I recently sold one of my favorite pieces. I LOVE that this happened, but the bare wall where it once hung seems, well, really bare. I was missing the work a wee bit and so it felt good to create something with a repeated circle pattern:

2. I really liked day 64’s delicate little piece. There was something about the stippling-esque approach that appealed to me. I wanted to explore something similar, on a larger scale.

I gotta say, I am super happy with the way this puppy turned out. It combines both painterly and drawerly (made up word) approaches.

Side Note: Some of you have wondered if I actually get these big pieces done in one day. The answer is sometimes. I started this one late Sunday afternoon, worked on it all day yesterday and put finishing touches on it this a.m. I create smaller pieces as well on those days to use as my daily work.
