Bird Complete

I finally finished up my bird and am, overall, pretty pleased with the little guy. Part of me wishes I had really saturated the belly and head with color, and then transitioned out to pencil. This feels a little too expected for my taste. Maybe next time!

I’ve been working on two very different pieces. I finished up the abstract piece today and have a smidge left yet on the bird. The hard lines of the abstract guy are a bit of a different approach for me. Good to get out of my comfort zone, I s’pose.

The heater died in our RV/house, Gertrude a bit over a week ago. Because we live in Colorado, and because taking a ’94 Winnebago to get its heater fixed was probably not the easiest thing, and because if we did take Gertie to get fixed we would have no place to live, we moved out. Funny enough we are not at all sad and the 650 sq ft place we’re in now feels like a mansion!
And now that we’re settled in, I enjoyed a good chunk of time to work on more “Art for Good” rewards.

Big Guy Revisited – Work in Progress

6' x 3.5' Acrylic on canvas

6′ x 3.5′ Acrylic on canvas

I hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful holiday season! My holiday in Mexico was pretty miserable. It’s hard to deal with great company, warm weather and excellent food (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). My absenteeism from blogging can be blamed on the aforementioned.
The large piece above is one I created over a year ago and have never really loved. I decided it needed to be re-done, so this is step one.

Pheasant Feather Abstracted

~3 x 5" ink on paper

~3 x 5″ ink on paper

A studio mate brought in a bag full of pheasant feathers and invited us all to take as many as we’d like. I picked out a handful of interesting patterned ones and some that had gorgeous iridescence to them. This little black and white piece was inspired by some of the patterns seen – although MUCH more abstracted.

Rewards Paintings

Last month I launched an “Art for Good” campaign that raised money to get art into the homes of folks who might not otherwise be able to afford it. Now that the goal has been reached, I’ve got to get reward paintings out. These three `3 x 5″ pieces are what I have come up with thus far. Because very few people have specified what it is they would like, I think I might build a little library of images for people to choose from.
