I finished up my drawing yesterday and the boyfriend asked me whether it was a moth or a butterfly. Initially I thought butterfly, but as I looked at it again, I wasn’t completely sure. There are no real clear indicators in my drawing. I knew that moths typically land with wings open and butterflies closed, and upon further investigation I found that moths usually have a fuzzier, fatter body. They also have fuzzier antennae – which does not apply here. So I say call it as you wish.

Yard Work: Bird on Bike
It was not because she fancied a tidy yard that she gathered the gold and auburn leaves. In fact, she often biked them around for days after collecting them – returning home with the same full wagon she had begun with. The bird toted the wagon load because it made her happy. She liked being able to take with her the sound and the color and the smell of the crisp fall gems.
Yard Work: Bird on Bike Work in Progress

18 x 30″ Acrylic and ink on canvas
In an effort to change these bird on bike pieces up a bit, I thought I’d throw in a bit of a different sky. I’m not so sure about it just yet. I may add more of the sunset-y cloud/sky or I may get rid of it altogether. I’m also tossing around the idea of adding some tree branches Needless to say, this piece is a bit of a work in progress.
Farmer’s Market Bird on Bike (Nearly Certain He’s Complete)
He knew fall was right around the corner – crisp mornings attested to that. Brightly colored summer fruits would soon come to an end, and squashes of all sorts of earthy tones would make their way to center stage. A hearty fall harvest would bring about simmering stews – the scents of which would waft out slightly cracked windows. As the quiet bird pedaled home, enjoying the last days of summer, he was comforted by such thoughts.
Mobile Home
Take off and landing were a bit tricky, but well worth it, she thought. The freedom of the open skies and ability to make anywhere her destination was incredibly fulfilling. Not to mention the fact that the little ones must be getting a feel for riding. As she pedaled through the bright blue sky, she looked about and wondered what flight of fancy awaited her next.

Obstacles
Landing Pad
He’d long since realized the bike didn’t really work for riding – at least not in the traditional sense. This was just fine by him. As he glided above the mountain tops he smiled at the sky above, then peered to the green valley below. Plots of rectangles and and dots of color acted as a landing strip. His wheel touched down and he glided in smoothly. This, he thought, is the way to ride.
Work in Progress: Just No Birds Please
A preggors friend of mine called the other day to see if I would make some paintings similar to the bird with bike’s images for the baby’s room. I was delighted by the idea. There was, however, one caveat to the project. My friend cannot stand birds. They freak her out. Completely. So I am experimenting with a new, bird-less series with the same whimsy but different animals. I’m still working out the details, but here is one work in progress.
One Old and One New
A few Friday’s ago was the First Friday Gallery walk here in lovely Fort Collins. We at PSA held our Bike Art exhibit and the Gallery folks once again did a great job of hanging the show – but there was a slight (but great) mix up. For the exhibit I entered two pieces: Bird on Bike and Birds Flying Bike. Bird on Bike sold before the show went up, but the “sold” indicator accidentally ended up on the wrong piece. My Bird on Bike was accidentally sold twice. Initially I felt bad, but I offered to paint the nice folks another, which they seemed thrilled with. For the last few days I have been doing just that. I took a few minutes at the end of the day to also do a quick sketch for good measure.
Geometric Work in Progress for Tech Guy’s Office
The company that the boyfriend works for just moved into a new office. He was told he must have art on his walls – which is a direct order I can get behind! The boyfriend requested a geometric piece similar to something I made a few years back. This piece will adorn the boring wall above his computer when I am done.
