Arting for 365 Day 199: Another Year

~3 x 5 ink and watercolor on paper

Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days

As of yesterday, I have officially been alive 35 years. Not an exorbitant amount of time, and based on the fact that my grandma is still rockin it at 96, I like to think I have many years ahead.

My 35th year has been one of enormous growth. I base this on the fact that I have chosen to dedicate myself to being an artist. While not a huge money making endeavor, I really believe it has brought more to my life than any job I could have taken ever would have. Plus, when people ask what I do, I get to tell them I make art.

I recognize that the arting path I have chosen would have been umpteen times more difficult if it weren’t for the lovely folks in my life who have, for some odd reason, decided they’d back me up and be my cheerleaders along this adventure. So for day 199’s art, I opted to make a birthday cake (albeit a very abstract one) whose candles are held up by little circular blobs. I feel pretty strongly that without all of the fabulous people in my life (aka circular blobs), much of this craziness that I have opted to take a stab at would have been done with much more struggle. Heck, maybe it wouldn’t have been done at all. So thanks to all of you who help hold up my candles. Here’s to many more adventurous years!

Arting for 365 Day 198: Wings Made of Leaves

While waves and water provided him a life, he felt most at home among the trees. Each leaf a shelter for his thoughts. The rustling and swaying of branches music for his soul.

So attached to the trees was he, that upon each ascent, he imagined his wings were made of leaves. Playing music in the wind. Bringing comfort in flight.

Arting for 365 Day 197: Unfamiliar Space

11/11/12Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days

Some of you may have noticed that the work I have been producing lately is on the small side. I find absolutely nothing wrong with small pieces of art. In fact, I think small pieces can be more intimate. They really force a viewer to come in closely to check out the details, but I have to admit I miss working on a larger scale.
As we move from a roomy apartment to a 27′ RV, I have yet to figure out where exactly I will have studio space. I think I’ve got some promising options, but until I get things ironed out, small art will rule the day!
Oh – another positive about these small pieces: Eventually I will have enough 3 x 5″ rectangles to cover the RV walls, which could use some new wallpaper anyway.

Arting for 365 Day 196: An RV, a Cat, and Good Times With Friends

It was a big day for us yesterday. We took our first road trip in Gertrude – our new home/RV! Although the Wyoming wind did shake us around a bit, overall the trip was smooth as a baby’s butt.

Box, the cat, handled the drive as decently as you would expect a feline might (not great – but he also didn’t pee or puke anywhere, which is a win in my book).

And eventually we made it to our friends house where we enjoyed dinner and a fabulous night of board games and dancing. All in all, an excellent adventure!

Arting for 365 Day 194: Evolution is a Sticky Thing

11/9/12

`3 x 5″ ink and acrylic on paper

Yesterday I sat down to look for images on the web and came across this amazing image of an Australian Sundew. It was breathtaking. As I read about it, I found it even more amazing. The innocent looking thing is actually sticky and carnivorous!

I was immediately inspired to create this small piece. I loved the form of the flower and wanted to draw something with even more depth and a fuller set of globular pieces. I think this piece would be fun on a larger scale as well – perhaps painted with watercolors.

Arting for 365 Day 191: Taking the High Road

11/5/12Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days

No bad mouthing or hitting below the belt. No deals made under the table. He’d vowed to take the high road on this one.

But as he rounded another bend to see the great distance remaining on the high road, he began to think twice. His pace, as you might imagine, was not so quick. And with no one to keep him company, the alternate routes were looking much more appealing.

Arting for 365 Day 190: Establishing Residency

It’s interesting to walk through old neighborhoods. The giant trees who grow there uproot sidewalks, letting you know they established residency long before you or anyone else happened to be around. Before the houses and the corner market; before the neighborhood park or school; these old trees were growing tall and strong.

Arting for 365 Day 189: The Jetsons

11/3/12

Goal: To create one piece of art each day for 365 consecutive days

Perhaps it is the color combination juxtaposed to the geometric shapes, but for whatever reason, when I look at this little watercolor/ink piece, I am reminded of the Jetsons.

The Jetsons was  a cartoon I thoroughly enjoyed as a kid. I can’t say I loved it for it’s strong storyline – in fact I don’t’ recall one episode in particular. I do, however, clearly remember the opening scene and theme music. Meeting the Jetsons was a treat each and every time as saucer-mobiles flew families around and robot maids took care of your every whim. The show was retro and futuristic at once. A fabulous combination.
